Occ Summary

Perform moderately skilled work aiding phy sicaltherapists,occupational therapists, and speech language pathologist s (ifapplicable) with departmental operating procedures and patienttreat ment.


Work Performed

Level IPerform patient related tasksand instruction, in whichemployee has attained competence, as speci fically designated by thetherapist.Prepare patient and treatment area fo r care, aidtherapist with patient care under direct and/or indirectsuper vision.Meet all competency skills for Therapy Aide LevelI.Utilize correc t sterile technique when assisting with woundcare and dressing changes.T ransport patients to proper locationaccording to the daily time schedule utilizing all necessary safetyprecautions in all areas of the hospital asrequested.Transport,transfer, and/or assist patient in and outof whee lchair, bed, tilt table, or stretcher safely and without unduediscomfort topatient. Assist in scheduling inpatients andoutpatients as needed.Arr ange schedule so patients will arrivein the department for their schedul edvisit: delays will be reported tothe therapists no later than the sche duled time of expectedarrival.Assist patients as necessary for transfers ,dressingand toileting.Assist in the maintenance, care, and cleaning ofe quipment and supplies.Demonstrate knowledge of and utilizesgood body mec hanics.Understand oxygen procedures in transportof patients.Transport/de liver equipment, records, mail/messagesin a timely manner as requested o raccording to daily schedule.Manage or assist with control of linen ands upply inventory asrequested to include Organize and stock inventory syst ematically andefficiently; check inventorylevels on a daily basis or acc ording toarea standard and place as needed, and check orders receivedfor accuracy and damage.Consistently meet patient care productivitystandards for job classification.Work cooperatively with peersto contribute tothe overall productivity of the team.Activelysupport and participate incros scoverage efforts in thedepartment/division.Report patient responses/rea ctions totreatment.Complete activity logs, safety logs, stamped patienta ttendance information, and other projects as assigned.Postchargesand ass ist with phone and front office coverage asneeded.Communicate with patie nt and staff in courteous,respectful, and supportive manner.Respond prom ptly to requestsfor assistance in a cooperative and enthusiasticmanner.A ssistwith orientation and training of volunteers assigned to PT,OT, orSL P.Participate in review of activities and processes for areaofwork;assis t in implementing changes to effect continual improvementin services pro vided; and comply with regulatory and legalrequirements.LevelII In addit ion to duties described inLevel I, performs the following:Aid with and c o-treat on morecomplex therapy procedures appropriate for non-licensed s taff,including independent performance of some treatment techniques with on-site supervision.Manage custom supply orders, including:delivery tracking, sending packing slips to procurement, and processingreturns in app ropriate and timely manner.Check equipmentroutinely to ensure proper ope ration and follows procedures fornotification, repair, replacement.Consi stently meet patientcare productivity standards for job classification.D isplayflexibility in scheduling.Report patient responses/reactions totre atment, document in medical record as appropriate, and ensureco-document ation andco-signature of supervisingtherapist.Provide on-site supervisio nto assignedaides.Organize workload for assigned staff infair andequitab le way.Assist with orientation and training of level Iaides and voluntee rs assigned to PT, OT, or SLP.


Knowledge, Skills and Abiliti es

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Level I Level II Graduation from high school or GED; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or Licensure/Certification as Athletic Trainer or Massage Therapist, or at least three years relevant experience as rehab aide/tech.


Experience

Level I Level II Successful completion of an on-the-job training period, rendering competency in performance of required duties after a specified period of time. One year rehabilitative services experience or equivalent education preferred. Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or Licensure/Certification as Athletic Trainer or Massage Therapist, or at least three years relevant experience as rehab aide/tech.


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Levels I and II BCLS certification or obtain within first three months of employment.
