Summary

The Physician Assistant is responsible for assisting the sponsoring surgeons in the management of patients and performs diagnostic, therapeutic and intraoperative procedures under the supervision of the surgeon. The Physician Assistant works closely and assists the surgeon in providing quality, efficient and cost effective care during the patient�s hospitalization. The physician assistant ensures continuity between clinical practice and standards of care as well as promotes and aids in patient preparation for procedures progressing towards discharge. The Physician Assistant works collaboratively with physicians, nurses and case managers and other health care disciplines utilizing a team approach. The Physician Assistant assists in the surgical suite including first assist, deep and superficial wound closure, application of internal devices and any other procedures delegated by supervising orthopedic surgeon.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Minimum: Graduate from a program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)

Preferred: Applicant to be certified or eligible by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, Inc. (NCCPA)

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum : Five (5) years experience in advanced medical or surgical practice, with specialty in orthopaedic and surgical health care education/training in clinical setting. Previous Orthopedic Surgery experience is required.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE/REGISTRATION: Current Florida Licensure with Prescribing number (per FL Statute); Current American Heart Association BLS Certification.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent human relations and written communication skills. Must be able to function as a resource for Specialty Care Areas throughout the facility.
