MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center has an excellent opportunity for a full time Board Certified or Board Eligible Orthopedic Surgery physician to join the Orthopaedic Department located in Mason City, Iowa.
The selected physician will join seven physicians, seven PAs, a Hand Specialized Occupational Therapist and a Physical Therapy Service. A Podiatrist will be joining the team in August 2021. The department is looking for an additional physician as a current physician is planning to retire in the next year or so. The PAs take primary call so they are the first level that gets the call.
Job duties include:
- Evaluating patients and in doing so, reviewing and interpreting patient health history, conducting a physical exam, and reviewing laboratory, x-ray, and other test reports to determine diagnosis.
- Based on results of patient evaluation, developing and implementing treatment plan and providing education to patients.
- Performing surgical procedures.
- Evaluating hospitalized patients during preop and postop period, monitoring progress, and releasing patient from hospital.
- Recognizing abnormal patient responses to treatment, surgery and/or medication and implementing corrective actions as appropriate.
- Documenting all aspects of care provided. Completing paperwork necessary to assure payment for services rendered.
- Participating in call coverage as assigned.
- Maintaining knowledge of trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate articles, journals, and related material, and by attending seminars, conferences and so forth.
Approximately 90% of the selected physician's time will be spent in direct patient care activities and approximately 10% of time is spent in paperwork, equipment, supplies, committee meetings, etc.
The Orthopedic surgeons perform most surgeries at either the local hospital, MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center or the Ambulatory Surgery Center. There are also some basic surgical procedures such as carpal tunnel repairs done at the outreach hospitals. There is investment opportunity in the ASC.
